Crown Tattoos
Crowning Achievement: The Crown
Tattoo
For most people, a crown represents the leader’s right to reign
supreme over his realm. Many of us associate the crown with
royalty and power but there are many other meanings for the
crown that are more personal. For some, a crown tattoo
represents the wearer’s right to rule over their own feelings,
actions and lives. It can also stand for the person’s desire to
have self-control or to express that control in an open way.
Authority is more than power and must be wielded with justice,
understanding and wisdom.
Crown of Thorns Tattoo
This is a crown of thorns as in the tale of Jesus’
crucifixion. This tattoo can symbolize either faith and
commitment to religious pursuits or the past suffering of the
wearer who is now stronger for having experienced it and
triumphing over it. It may also lie on top of a heart which may
indicate sacrifice in love.
Crown of Faith Tattoo
The Crown of Faith (with or without the bright
light of the holy spirit) with a cross or sacred heart, stands
for faith even through persecution. Many who wear it are
indicating a clear sense of religious belief that surpasses the
pressures they go through in everyday life. For some it can
also indicate a time of great repression that has now been
surpassed. Some people use this crown to indicate faith in
love.
Crown on Top Tattoo
Many tattoo wearers place the crown atop another
image such as a skeleton, a dog, lion or other symbolic figure
that represents the wearer’s sense of self. Often this
image is intended to convey confidence, a sense of dignity,
honor or even a sense of humor. This marks the wearer as any
easy going relaxed person who is in control of their life and
the things that happen in it.
Claddagh Tattoo
This is a symbol made up of two hands holding a
heart with a crown on top of it. The Claddagh is a Celtic
symbol which stands for love and friendship. The symbol is very
old and also very literal; the wearer offers their heart to
those they love in kinship and in romance and crown that heart
with their love. It is a symbol of loyalty and the enduring
presence of love and fidelity. It may also be used as the ring
version is to indicate that the wearer is taken and wishes to
remain so.
Jester’s Crown
The Jester’s crown is typically depicted on top of
any number of mischievous figures and is meant to indicate a
wicked sense of humor and trickster behavior. This is symbol
that indicates the wearer has a sense of humor about most
things in life and is often the center of attention.
The crown is one of many symbols whose meaning can be left of
largely to the wearer. The general qualities of loyalty,
faith, devotion and will are all attributed to this common
symbol. With the current trend in tattoos leaning toward
symbols like the crown there are sure to be many different
selections to choose from.
